Updated Private Teacher List Coming Soon!

Help pay it forward by donating to the program!

The Kiski Area Lesson Academy will be launching soon for the purpose of enhancing the musical education of Kiski Area band students grades 5-12.  The funds generated for this program will be spent on two major categories:

  • Subsidies for private music lessons for interested, eligible, and motivated students
  • Subsidies for attendance and participation in any school music camp or summer program (i.e. - PSU Summer Music Camp or The Music For All Summer Symposium)

Although all Kiski Area band students will be eligible to apply for free or reduced lessons/camp funds, priority will be given to those students with financial need. Recommendations will come from the Kiski Area Instrumental Music Faculty based on his/her knowledge of students commitment, individual circumstances, and availability of funds.

Why Private Lessons?

What are the benefits of taking weekly private music lessons? Some of the obvious student motivations for studying privately could include the following:

  • to improve playing ability
  • to earn a higher chair in the ensemble
  • to do well on my next playing test
  • to win a scholarship competition
  • to earn a spot into an honors band

As parents, we may wish to consider some of the less obvious benefits of private study that do not exclude our child's initial motivations but could be beyond his or her initial grasp. These might include :

  • learning to solve problems independently
  • learning to work with within deadlines to complete projects and learning to cope with stress
  • learning how to get back on the horse after we fall off
  • learning how to take pride in an accomplishment
  • learning how to work as a member of a team

Whatever your case may be, private instruction is the single most effective way to better one's skill set on his or her instrument (s).  We urge you to take advantage of this program after it officially launches!!
